Dan
Bassill became a volunteer tutor in 1973 when he joined Montgomery Ward.
In 1975 he became leader of the program at Wards.
In 1990 he left Wards and converted the original program into the
Cabrini Green Tutoring Program, Inc. In 1992 he and seven
volunteers formed Cabrini Connections, to help 7th graders from the
original program continue mentoring through high school.
At the
same time, he created the Tutor/Mentor Connection to help programs like
Cabrini Connections reach k-12 youth in all high poverty neighborhoods
in Chicago.
In
July 2011 Dan created the Tutor/Mentor Institute, LLC to continue this
vision in a new structure. A birthday gift is NOT tax-deductable, but
does recognize Dan's vision, long-term service, and gives you a share of
Dan's vision.

for helping inner city youth.

4-Part Strategy - Concept Map
http://tinyurl.com/TMC-4-part-strategy-planning
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
There are nearly 135,000 youth attending poorly performing public
schools in Chicago.
A fully funded Tutor/Mentor Institute in Chicago should operate with
annual revenue of $300,000 to $1 million per year (see
this comparison to Mentoring Partnerships around the country) .
This
PDF report shows the funding available since 2000 and some of the
work that has been done.
Dan
seeks sponsors, investors and partners to help build an organizational
structure that has these types of resources. However, the first step to
winning is to get into the game....and staying there. If you can help
Dan keep this vision growing in 2012.... with a Birthday
or year end contribution .... please do.
If you can become a sponsor or
investor or help find such people, please take that role.

This story shows Dan with a
Cabrini Connections student in 1994,
with a map of Chicago in the background. Dan has always used
maps to show his commitment to kids in all poverty
neighborhoods, as well as his commitment to the kids in the
program he led.

Below is the same student
from the newspaper story above, but 16 years later ---
at the Cabrini Connections 2010 year end dinner.

This is an illustration to
Dan's vision of long-term connections between youth and
volunteers --- made possible by organized tutor/mentor
programs and by intermediaries and donors who help such
programs get the ideas, talent and resources each needs
to operate and improve from year-to-year.
You can help make this vision a reality for more kids in
Chicago and in other cities.
