Dan Bassill will be 72 on December 19, 2018

The photos below represent over 40 years of public service since 1968 when Dan Bassill joined the US Army to October 2015 when his use of maps was featured in a Chicago Tribune story by Dawn Turner and November 2016 when Dan and his mentee, Leo Hall, were interviewed for an article in The Atlantic.   Help Dan celebrate his 72nd birthday with a gift that enables him to continue this service into another year.

Dan Bassill became a volunteer tutor in 1973 when he joined Montgomery Ward Headquarters in Chicago. In 1975 he became leader of the program at Wards.

In 1990 he left Wards and converted the original program into the Cabrini Green Tutoring Program, Inc.  In 1992 he and seven volunteers formed Cabrini Connections, to help 7th graders from the original program continue mentoring through high school.

At the same time, he created the Tutor/Mentor Connection to help programs like Cabrini Connections reach k-12 youth in all high poverty neighborhoods in Chicago.

In July 2011 Dan created the Tutor/Mentor Institute, LLC to continue this vision in a new structure. A birthday gift is NOT tax-deductable, but does recognize Dan's vision, long-term service, and gives you a share of Dan's vision.
